PSA: Found a stash of old wool yarn at a thrift shop in Des Moines

Stopped by Goodwill on Grand Avenue yesterday and found three trash bags of vintage wool yarn for $12 total. Some skeins still had the original price tags from 1982 on them. The color range is wild, like avocado green and harvest gold kitchen colors. Anyone else have luck washing old wool to get the mothball smell out without ruining the fibers?

Vinegar soak is the trick, soak them a few hours in cold water with a cup of white vinegar. You find any labels with the brand names on them or were they all plain?

@oliver_ward14 vinegar works great, I did a cold soak with a little white vinegar and then laid them flat to dry. The smell came right out and the yarn felt fine after.
