Just realized I need to choose between acrylic and wool for this baby blanket

I was making a blanket for my nephew and went back and forth for three days on acrylic vs. superwash merino. I picked the merino and now I'm worried it'll felt in the wash - anyone dealt with that?

Disagree with going merino for a baby blanket. I get wanting softness but babies are messy and parents are tired. That blanket is gonna get washed a lot and probably on hot because someone forgot about the settings. I've seen too many superwash merino blankets come out of the dryer looking like a dishrag after a few months. Acrylic might not feel as nice but it'll survive. You can find acrylic yarns now that are way softer than the scratchy stuff from ten years ago. Save the nice wool for a throw blanket for adults who know how to care for it.

Oh man I feel you on that worry. I went with a superwash merino for my friend's baby blanket and it actually held up fine in the wash, but I did stick to cold water and low heat drying just to be safe. The acrylic would be way more forgiving if the parents are gonna toss it in the washer without thinking, so that's worth weighing against how soft you want the blanket to be.
