Is it just me or does everyone hold their yarn wrong for colorwork?
I was at a knit night in Denver last week and watched three people struggle through a fair isle hat because they were wrapping both colors the same direction. Their floats were so tight the fabric puckered like a dried apple doll. I spent 15 minutes showing them how to strand with one color in each hand. Why do so many tutorials skip this basic hand position thing? Has anyone else noticed this is the main reason people quit stranded knitting?

Is this like how people hold their forks wrong or do we just assume everyone figures out the same way? I see it with sewing too, everyone learns different basics and then wonders why their project looks off.

Totally agree with you. I had the exact same frustration last month at my local stitch group. Watched a woman almost cry over a simple stranded scarf because she was wrapping both yarns clockwise and her tension was a disaster. I showed her my one in each hand method and she literally said "nobody ever told me that." It's wild how the backbone tutorials on youtube all skip that crucial detail and then wonder why beginners burn out.
