I mocked the corner-to-corner blanket trend, now I owe it an apology

Back in 2019, my aunt kept pushing corner-to-corner crochet and I figured it was just another fad for people who couldn't handle real graph patterns. Then last September I had a bin of mismatched worsted weight yarn, maybe 800 yards of odds and ends, and decided to give it a shot just to use it up. The way the diagonal blocks eat up scraps without any color planning is honestly genius, I made a full lap blanket in 11 days and it actually looks intentional. Now I get why the tutorials on this board never stopped recommending it, the structure hides sloppy tension better than anything I've tried. Anyone else have a technique they swore off for years and then finally caved on?
