Tried using a socket wrench as a hammer for a stubborn tent stake

Last weekend at Campsite 7 in Pine Grove, I didn't want to walk back to the truck for my mallet so I grabbed my 3/8 socket wrench. The plastic handle shattered on the third hit and now I need a new set before my next trip. Anyone else wreck a tool by using it for something it wasn't made for?

Read a tip online once about using a rock instead of a hammer for tent stakes... works way better and doesn't cost you a trip to the hardware store.

The other day I lost my hammer and used a 2-pound river rock to drive stakes. It worked so well I almost prefer it now. @price.tyler, that tip ties into something I've noticed: the best camping tricks are usually the simplest ones you figure out when you're stuck. It is funny how often the perfect tool is just something sitting on the ground nearby.
