Old timer told me to use motor oil on my chain saw chain instead of bar oil
My neighbor Gary, who's been cutting firewood since the 70s, swore up and down that cheap motor oil works just fine in a chainsaw and I'd be wasting money on bar oil. I tried it for one afternoon cutting up a fallen maple in my yard and the chain got so gummy and hot it started smoking after about 20 minutes. Has anyone else gotten bad advice from someone who's been doing things the same way for decades?

Ha, Gary's been giving that advice for 40 years huh? Did he tell you if he used new or used motor oil for it, cause that makes a big difference in how fast it gums up?
