That $60 tow strap I bought off Amazon snapped on me yesterday

I was trying to pull my buddy's F-150 out of a ditch near Austin after it rained and that cheap strap gave way at the first real tug. Metal hook flew past my windshield and put a nice dent in the hood. Anyone else had those bargain recovery straps let go on them?

Did you check if that strap was rated for the actual weight or just went with the highest number on the listing?

Replace those cheap Amazon straps with a real kinetic rope before you kill someone.

Harsh but not wrong about those cheap Amazon straps. I've seen people try to recover a stuck truck with one of those and it snapped like a rubber band on the first tug. Kinetic rope stretches and absorbs the shock, those cheap straps just fight against the load until they give out. The rating numbers on Amazon are often made up too, so you have no idea what you're actually getting. Better to spend a bit more on something from a known brand than risk a strap turning into a projectile.
