Finally got my self-watering herb pot to actually work after 6 months of tinkering
I kept killing basil because the wick system would either flood the roots or dry out completely. Took me swapping out the cotton rope for a nylon one and drilling five extra holes in the inner pot to balance it right. Anybody else had to fail a dozen times before a simple idea actually clicked?

Fam it's just basil though. You're out here redesigning the wick system like you're on some gardening engineering show. It's a plastic pot with a string. Not tryna hate but I toss herbs in regular dirt, water em when they look sad, and if they die I buy another from the store for 3 bucks. Feel like you could've bough $20 worth of basil instead of 6 months of tinkering lol

Ngl @the_thomas, isn't the whole point here that some people actually enjoy the tinkering process more than just having basil? Buying a new plant every month adds up over time, plus you're stuck with whatever the store has. Curious though, how long does your "water when sad" routine actually keep a basil plant alive before you gotta restock?
