Had to choose between a scratched Beatles album and a mint Herb Alpert today
I was digging through a bin at a garage sale in Portland last Saturday and found a really beat-up copy of Sgt. Pepper's for $2, but right next to it was a near-mint Whipped Cream and Other Delights for $1. I went with the Herb Alpert because the condition was just so good (you know, no skips or pops) and it actually sounds amazing on my turntable. Has anyone else passed up a rare find just because the vinyl was too rough?

Wait, did I just read that right? You passed up a scratched Beatles album for a mint Herb Alpert? I used to be all about grabbing any Beatles record no matter the condition, but last year I grabbed a rough copy of Abbey Road for a buck and the surface noise was so bad it ruined the whole experience. Your story actually changed my mind on that, now I'm thinking condition matters way more than the name on the cover. Might have to dig through my own bins with a different eye next time.

You ever buy a record just for the name and end up with a paperweight? Condition is everything, trust me.
