The day I stopped using 99% isopropyl alcohol for cartridge cleaning.
I used to swear by that stuff for cleaning old NES carts, but after it ate the label off my pristine copy of Contra last December, I switched to just using a white eraser on the contacts. Turns out the abrasive eraser gets the gunk off way better without wrecking anything, at least for the grime I deal with around here. Has anyone else had a label peel up from alcohol, or was I just unlucky?

Same thing happened with my Zelda cart. Totally ruined the label.

Wait seriously the label? That's awful, I didn't even think about that part. My first thought was the cartridges yellowing over time but the label is the whole face of the game. I have a few old NES games where the label is already peeling at the corners and I get nervous just looking at them now. For Zelda that's a total bummer, those old gold carts are iconic and ruining the label just kills the whole vibe of the thing.
