That $30 universal power adapter fried my Sega Genesis
Bought a cheap universal adapter off eBay cause I lost the original, plugged it in and the console just smoked. Lost $30 on the adapter and another $50 for a replacement Genesis on FB Marketplace.

Found a knockoff Game Boy charger at a flea market once, worked great for two whole minutes before it started hissing.

And that sounds about right for flea market electronics, doesn't it? I swear my old knockoff charger had a built in timer for exactly that kind of dramatic exit. It's like they knew exactly how long it would take to psych you out before self-destructing. I've had better luck just using a modern USB charger and a cheap adapter, honestly. At least that way I'm not risking a small explosion in my living room, you know?
