TIL my old Game Boy can survive a full coffee spill but the cartridges can't

I was playing Pokemon Red on my couch last Saturday and knocked a whole mug of coffee onto my Game Boy Pocket. The console still works fine after drying out for a day, but the cartridge slot is now sticky and my save file is gone. Has anyone else had a drink disaster kill their game data but leave the system alive?

Had a Sprite spill on my GBA back in 2004. Console dried out fine but the Pokemon Emerald cart was toast. Lost everything.

Tried the same trick @ray_king mentioned with the rice trick but for the cartridge itself - just left it in a bag of uncooked rice for a week and it actually booted up normally again. Might be worth a shot if you haven't tried it yet.
