Spent $75 on a 'tested working' Commodore 64 that came with a surprise inside
I bought a Commodore 64 off eBay from a seller in Ohio who swore it was fully working, but when I plugged it in a faint burning smell came out after about 2 minutes. Popped the case open and found a forgotten half-eaten cheese sandwich crust wedged between the motherboard and the shielding, which had been slowly shorting things out over the years. Anyone else ever gotten a retro machine with food stashed inside?

Got a VIC-20 from a local thrift store once that had a petrified gummy bear stuck to the power supply. That cheese crust thing is super common actually. Before you plug anything else in, take the whole board out and clean it with 90% isopropyl alcohol and a soft toothbrush. Pay extra attention around the RAM chips and the cartridge port because food residue attracts moisture and causes corrosion over time. Let it dry for a full 24 hours before testing again.
