Finally hit the 500 game mark on my NES collection and it hit different
Yesterday I cracked 500 cartridges in my NES collection after snagging a dusty copy of Gradius off Facebook Marketplace for $8. I did the math and realized I've been hunting since 2010 when I found my first lot at a garage sale for $20. What got me is that I never planned to hit a specific number, it just kind of happened over time with thrift store runs and eBay bids. Most of the games are common titles like Super Mario Bros and Duck Hunt, but there's maybe 30 rare ones in there too. Anyone else hit a milestone by accident and stop to think about how much time you actually put in?

Hit 200 on my PS2 collection last month and honestly I just stared at the shelf for a minute feeling like I wasted a bunch of money. I get the accidental milestone thing though I never planned to collect that many it just happened because I kept seeing cheap games. Gradius for $8 is solid but 500 carts is a lot of plastic taking up space. You ever actually gone through and asked yourself which ones you genuinely still play versus just having for the number?

That @robinson.holly question about what you actually still play is the real kicker. I hit 300ish on my Genesis collection last year and realized about 40% of it is just shelf filler I grabbed in lots. Gradius for eight bucks though is a steal, those shooter carts are getting harder to find cheap.
