For 12 years I was lubing my Cherry MX switches wrong, my buddy's Model M showed me the difference in about 5 seconds.
He handed me his keyboard and said 'type on this' and I instantly heard how dull and scratchy mine was, turns out I was globbing the grease on the slider instead of just a thin coat on the contact leaf, has anyone else realized they were doing a basic maintenance step backwards?

Holding the opposite view here. I've been globbing grease on my sliders for YEARS and my switches sound FINE. Thick lube fills in the tiny gaps and gives a deeper, more dampened sound that thin coats just don't match. Plus wiping down the contact leaf with grease can actually mess with the electrical connection over time and cause double-clicks. If it works for you, fine, but I think people got scared by some forum post and now overthink something that was never broken.

Yeah "dull and scratchy" is basically my whole life when I realize I've been doing something the hard way for years.
