Warning: My old Kelty backpack seat pad is basically crumbling now.
Found my Kelty backpack from a 2014 trip to Yosemite in the basement, and the foam seat pad turned into sticky, yellow dust when I touched it. I guess the foam just degrades after 10 years in a humid garage. Has anyone else had foam rot on gear that old and found a fix?

Guess the foam heard it was turning 10 and decided to retire to dust town. Did the rest of the pack survive the foamageddon or is it a total loss now?

The same thing happened to my old ski gloves last winter (they just turned to dust after a decade of abuse). It's like everything in our lives has an invisible timer, and the second it hits zero, boom, disintegration. My guess is the rest of the pack probably went the same way, maybe a little slower if they were stored better. Just another reminder that nothing lasts forever, not even the stuff they claim is "indestructible.
