Warning: That $30 laptop battery "deal" on eBay cost me a motherboard
Bought a cheap replacement battery for my old ThinkPad off eBay for $30 and it swelled up like a balloon in two weeks, cracking the case and frying the motherboard. Anyone else had bad luck with third-party laptop batteries from no-name sellers?

Oh man, have you ever tried the OEM refurbs instead of the off-brand ones? I was in the same boat with my old Dell, bought a cheap battery and it died fast. But I found a seller on eBay that specifically sells "genuine pull" batteries from used laptops, they're tested and usually way cheaper than new but not the scary no-name stuff. I paid like $40 for one that's been going strong for six months now, no swelling or issues at all. Just gotta look for the sellers with the long history and actual photos of the battery, not one of those generic stock images.

genuine pull" batteries sound sketchy though, how do you really know they're not just dead cells?
