Honestly, a guy messaged me last year after I listed a ThinkPad as 'mint condition' with just a tiny scratch. He said 'mint means close to new, not just no cracks.' He sent me a whole paragraph about how scratches and yellowed keys knock off value. I started taking photos under a desk lamp and pointing out every nick and scuff up front. Sales actually went up after that because people trust I'm not hiding stuff. Anyone else ever get a reality check from a picky buyer that actually helped your business?

tbh honest grading actually filters out tire kickers faster than fluffing it up would.

I saw a study a while back that said honest grading actually boosts long-term retention rates by like 30% (I think it was from some education journal). The idea is that when you make things too easy, people don't take it seriously and then get frustrated later when they realize they're in over their head. It's the same with online courses or even job applications - if you lie about the difficulty, people bail faster than if you just tell them upfront. My buddy runs a coding bootcamp and he says the same thing, that the students who stick around are the ones who appreciated the hard feedback early on. So yeah, filtering out tire kickers sounds about right, even if it means fewer people start in the first place.
