How I fixed a scratched laptop screen with just a damp cloth
Last month I bought a used ThinkPad from a guy on Facebook Marketplace for $120. The screen had a nasty scratch right in the middle, and he knocked $50 off because of it. I was ready to order a replacement panel for $80, but my wife said to try a microfiber cloth with a little distilled water first. I gently wiped the scratch in circles for about two minutes, and to my surprise it faded by maybe 60 percent. Turns out the scratch was just a smudge or a very light surface mark, not a deep gouge. Now I always mention that trick when I sell old laptops online, because it can save a buyer from thinking the screen is ruined. Has anyone else had luck cleaning up a screen that looked worse than it actually was?

Well I mean how bad was this scratch really? Most people see a mark on their screen and immediately think the worst but half the time it's just a layer of grime or a light scuff from a dusty sleeve or something. I've had friends who were ready to drop $150 on a new screen for a scratch that wiped off with a little Windex and a paper towel. Not saying your trick doesn't work but maybe we should all just take a breath and try the cheap fix first before we panic. Still, good on you for passing that tip along.
