I finally compared my old market drawings to today's scene

Remember when the farmers market had that guy with the handwritten signs? I used to sit there for HOURS getting the colors of the vegetables just right. Now it's all uniform stalls and printed labels, which feels kind of sterile to draw. My old sketches have this messy, lively energy that's harder to find now. It's not BAD, just different, and my art shows that shift. I guess that's why I keep going back to sketch food spots, to catch those changes before they're gone.

Do you feel like that handmade touch is what gave your old sketches their soul... and now it's fading? It's like the character of places is getting smoothed over, and our art has to chase after it.

Does art REALLY have to chase, or can it just watch?

Maybe art can just watch and still say a lot. When it chases, it might lose its own voice trying to keep up. Watching lets art capture things as they are, even if they're changing. That kind of art can remind us what we're losing without having to run after it. It's like being a witness instead of a hunter.
