Overheard a guy at the bus stop say he learned knife sharpening from a YouTube video about swords
Was waiting for the 42 bus last Tuesday and this dude next to me starts explaining how he got into sharpening kitchen knives after watching a 40 minute video on katana maintenance. I laughed at first, but then he pulled out his pocket knife and showed me the edge. That thing could split a hair. So now I'm three days in, I've dulled two old chef's knives on a cheap stone, and I've got a tiny cut on my thumb. Anyone else pick up a weird skill from a random conversation or video you never planned to watch?

My friend got me into fixing old sewing machines after she found a 1970s Singer at a thrift store. I watched one youtube video on how to oil the gears and now I've fixed three machines for neighbors. It's actually kind of satisfying once you get past the greasy fingers part.
