Had to choose between a swan fold and a basket fold for a housewarming gift yesterday

I was bringing a towel set to my buddy Mark's new place in Phoenix and wanted to make it look nice. The basket fold takes like 8 minutes and uses three towels but looks super clean. The swan fold only needs one towel but I figured it'd look goofy sitting on his counter. I went with the basket and it fit perfect on his bathroom shelf. He actually asked me to show him how to do it later. Has anyone else tried gifting folded towels and had the recipient want to learn the trick too?

Started doing the basket fold for my sister's wedding shower and now every time I visit she's got a different towel sculpture in her bathroom. Guess that's one way to leave a mark on someone's house.

Actually it's called "towel origami" not "towel sculpture." My cousin got really into it after a cruise and now every bathroom in her house looks like a zoo. She does elephants, swans, even tried a giraffe once but it just looked like a lopsided sock. The funny thing is she keeps doing it even when nobody's coming over. Just walks in there to brush her teeth and there's a towel penguin staring at her from the counter.
