Found my old baseball glove in the attic and it hit different
I was digging through boxes to find Christmas ornaments and pulled out my Wilson glove from 2003. The leather was stiff but there was still a worn spot right in the pocket where I caught a line drive during a game that won us the championship. Has anyone else found old sports gear that brought back specific memories like that?

The thing nobody talks about is how those gloves smelled when you first opened the box. That mix of old leather, dust, and maybe a little bit of sweat from fifteen years ago. My mitt had a bubblegum wrapper stuck in the webbing from a game in 2004 and I just left it there. It's like a time capsule for your hands more than your eyes. The leather gets this patina that tells its own story if you pay attention. Your glove from 2003 probably still has some dirt in the laces that no amount of wiping can ever get out.

Started doing the same thing with my old mitt from high school, @grantl94. That smell is exactly what hit me when I dug mine out last year. I found a piece of red licorice stuck to the inside of the thumb that must have been there since 2005, totally crystallized but still there. The little string in the webbing that I used to chew on is all frayed and dark from my spit, you can't fake that kind of wear. I swear every time I put it on now I get a whiff of summer grass and that weird rubber infield dirt we had.
