I spent 14 months fighting SSA and the denial letter had a math error

After my back surgery in 2021, I applied for SSDI and got denied. I appealed, got denied again. Then I asked for a hearing with a judge in Cleveland. That took 8 more months. When the denial finally came, I read it line by line. The judge said I could do 'sedentary work' but my medical records clearly show I can't sit for more than 20 minutes without pain. I called my lawyer and she pointed out the judge even wrote the wrong date for my surgery in the decision. How do they mess up basic facts like that? Has anyone else caught a mistake in their denial letter that could have changed the outcome?

omg the wrong surgery date thing is wild. that's not even a small typo that's basic facts they should have right in front of them. my denial letter said I could "stand for 6 hours" in a work day but my own doctor wrote I can barely stand 15 mins without my back giving out. its like they just copy paste generic stuff without actually looking at your records. really hope you appealed that math error cause that's just sloppy work on their end.

Used to think insurance companies were pretty thorough with their reviews, but your story and @iris_mason88's really opened my eyes. That standing thing alone shows they just copy paste generic stuff without actually reading your doctor's notes. Definitely makes me question how many denials are just lazy work on their end.
