Am I the only one who's tired of people saying SSDI is 'free money'?

My cousin said that to me at a family cookout last weekend. I told him to try living on $1,200 a month in Phoenix while dealing with a back that goes out if I sneeze wrong. He shut up real fast. I've been waiting 14 months for my hearing and I've got a lawyer fighting for me. This isn't some vacation fund. Has anyone else had to deal with friends or family acting like you're gaming the system?

Yeah, "free money" my back. Tell him I'd trade his cookout burger for a spine that doesn't scream when I tie my shoes.

That burger comment hits home because everyone's always selling you some trade-off that just means you give up something else.
