Vent: My vocal booth almost caught fire last night
Recording vocals in my closet at 2 AM and the foam panel I taped to the wall just dropped onto my space heater. Melted plastic smell woke me up real fast. Anyone else using cheap foam and have a close call like this?

Did you have the heater right under the foam or something? I did the same dumb thing last winter with my setup, melted a good chunk of the foam before I smelled it... scary how fast that stuff catches. You gotta keep those space heaters at least three feet away from anything flammable, and even then I'd aim it away from the booth. Also check if your foam has a fire rating label, some of that cheap stuff is basically just fuel waiting to go up. I switched to moving blankets after that happened, they're heavier but way safer and they actually kill more echo.

Basically just fuel waiting to go up" sums it up perfect. @finley777 youre right about moving blankets, I swapped to them too after a close call. The fire rating thing is key - I bought some acoustic foam off Amazon and it didn't even have a label. Now I just layer heavy moving blankets on the walls. They block more noise and I don't gotta worry about melting my studio into a bonfire.
