Took me 3 months to fix a weird bass buildup in my recording closet
I have this tiny walk-in closet I use for recording vocals and it had this horrible low end rumble that made everything sound muddy. Spent like 3 months moving foam panels around, hanging blankets, trying different mic placements. Finally figured out the issue was a hollow door vibrating at exactly the wrong frequency. Stuffed a towel under the door and boom, problem solved in 2 seconds. Anyone else chase a simple fix for way too long?

I mean, I see what you're saying about the door being the issue, but I actually think you might be giving that fix a little too much credit. A towel under a hollow door is great for stopping rattling, but it's not really going to do much for actual bass buildup in the room itself. That low end rumble is usually coming from the room dimensions or how the walls are coupling with the floor, not just a loose door vibrating. I've been in a similar spot where I thought I finally cracked the problem, only to realize the room itself still had a huge standing wave issue that needed actual bass traps to fix. Maybe it's just me, but I'd bet if you took that towel away, you'd still hear a lot of that muddiness, just not the specific rattle from the door.

Never actually tried bass traps, but I stuffed a heavy blanket in the corner and it helped me way more than the door fix.
