I think acoustic panels are overrated for most home studios
After setting up my spare bedroom for podcasting last year, everybody told me I needed expensive foam panels to fix the echo. I borrowed some from a friend first and honestly, they barely made a difference in my 10x12 room with carpet. What actually worked was shoving a thick moving blanket behind my mic and hanging a heavy quilt on the wall opposite my desk, cost me about 25 bucks total at a thrift store. Has anyone else found that simple furniture and rugs do more than those wedge panels?

Wait isn't the whole point of acoustic treatment supposed to be making your room sound dead, not look like a futuristic torture chamber? I mean I see people drop like 200 bucks on those wedge panels and their recordings still sound like they're broadcasting from a bathroom. Maybe it's just me but I think the whole acoustic panel industry is just selling us expensive wall art that barely works. A $10 goodwill blanket probably does more than those overpriced foam triangles anyway.
