Just realized I used to scrub my face raw every night thinking it was helping

Back in high school, I thought acne meant I needed to scrub harder, so I used that gritty apricot stuff every single night. My face would be red and tight, but I figured that was clean, you know? Now, I look back and cringe because my skin was probably screaming for mercy. These days, I use a soft cloth and a mild cleanser, and my skin is way calmer. It hit me that being gentle is actually more effective than attacking your skin. I used to think more products meant better care, but now I keep it simple. Funny how we learn over time, lol. My skin thanks me for the change.

Actually, I heard a dermatologist explain that scrubbing too hard can wreck your skin barrier. In my experience, that barrier is like a shield that keeps good stuff in and bad stuff out. When it's damaged, your skin gets angry and more prone to problems. Your mileage may vary, but gentle cleaning really does help it heal. It took me a while to learn that less is often more with skin care. Now I just use a basic cleanser and my face is way happier.

Go ahead and scrub if your skin feels oily or dirty! I've found that a good scrub clears out pores way better than gentle washing. My face stays clearer when I don't baby it too much.

@danielh81 going hard on things is a common move, but it often backfires. Just like scrubbing skin, pushing too much in work or life can break down what you're trying to fix. A lighter touch saves a lot of trouble.
