Unpopular opinion: UV sterilizers are overrated for most nano tanks

I keep seeing people recommend UV sterilizers for every little algae bloom or bacterial issue in tanks under 20 gallons. I've been running a 15 gallon mixed reef for two years and never used one. The constant water changes and good flow from my Jebao SLW-10 keeps things stable without nuking the pods and copepods. Has anyone else found that UV gear actually caused more problems than it solved in smaller setups?

The Jebao SLW-10 is a good pump but it's only rated for about 530 gallons per hour, which is pretty light flow for a 15 gallon reef. You might be getting away without the UV because that pump isn't moving enough water to really kick up detritus or stress things out.

Did you try running it without the UV for a few days to see if things settle?
