TIL I was overfeeding my tank for two years

Was at my LFS last week buying salt mix and the owner asked how much I feed my clownfish pair. Told him I drop in a pinch twice a day. He pointed out my nitrates were probably through the roof. Got home, tested again, sure enough 40 ppm. Cut back to once every other day and within three weeks everything looks way better. How often do you all feed your fish?

Three years ago I realized I was rinsing my frozen food so much I was probably just feeding them flavored water.

Caught myself doing the same thing a few months back actually. Had this bag of frozen broccoli that I'd run under hot water for a good minute before tossing it in the microwave. Realized all the seasoning and salt I thought I was adding was probably just washing away anyway (not that frozen broccoli needs much help in the taste department). Now I just shake the bag a bit and let em sit out for a few minutes before cooking. Works fine and I'm pretty sure my veggies actually taste like something now instead of regret and disappointment.
