The guy at my LFS told me I was overfeeding my tank
I used to dump a pinch of flake food in every morning for years until the owner of Aquatic Dreams in Austin straight up told me my phosphates were through the roof because of it. He said cut back to every other day and watch your coral colors blow up, and I thought he was crazy but within 3 weeks my acans went from brown to bright orange. Has anyone else had a shop owner give them a hard truth that actually improved their tank?

Honestly that's a solid lesson right there. Most people don't realize flake food is basically tiny sponges for phosphate. But I gotta gently correct you on the timeline - three weeks for acans to go from brown to bright orange? That's pushing it. Coral color changes that fast usually means it was more about a light change or a nutrient drop, not just cutting back feeding. Acans take longer to shift color like that, more like 6 to 8 weeks at least. Still, you're absolutely right that overfeeding is a huge hidden problem for most tanks. Tbh it's the number one thing I see new keepers mess up.

Is overfeeding really that big of a deal for most tanks though, @wadea53?
