Red Sea test kit gave me false numbers for 6 months

Was having constant algae blooms. Kept testing phosphates and they showed zero. Bought a Hanna checker on a whim. Phosphates were actually 0.8. All those dead corals I blamed on my lighting? Probably the hidden phosphates. Has anyone else switched test kits and found out their old one was lying to them?

OH man the "constant algae blooms" part hit HARD. I went through the EXACT same thing for like 8 months with a different brand of test kit. Kept showing zero nitrates and phosphates, algae was out of control, corals looked terrible. Finally got a proper test kit and found my nitrates were around 25 and phosphates were like 0.5. Felt like a COMPLETE idiot. Lost a really nice acro colony too probably because of those hidden phosphates.

Ugh the "felt like a COMPLETE idiot" part is so real. I had the same thing with my old test kit, kept thinking my params were perfect and couldnt figure out why my zoas looked like garbage. Finally broke down and got a Hanna checker and found my phosphates were at 0.8. That hidden phosphate thing is the worst because it just feeds the algae while you think everything is fine. Sorry about your acro man, that sucks.
