Hit 100 gallons on my reef tank last month and I still can't believe it
I mean I started with a little 20 gallon nano three years ago and somehow I just kept adding tanks and upgrading. Last month I looked at my setup and realized I'm running a 40 breeder, a 55 gallon, and a 5 gallon quarantine all at once. That's 100 gallons total which just sounds crazy to me. My electric bill went up like $15 a month and my wife keeps asking when I'm gonna stop. But honestly the thing that surprised me most was my first big coral loss when my powerhead failed during a heat wave and I lost about $80 worth of zoas overnight. That hurt way more than I thought it would. Has anyone else accidentally crept up to a bigger setup than they planned and just rolled with it?

Is this just how hobbies work though? You start small, tell yourself you're being reasonable, and then suddenly you're explaining to your wife why you NEED that extra tank for a fish you don't even own yet.

Hold on, are we really calling 100 gallons spread across three tanks a serious problem? I mean, you're not running a 300 gallon system with a fish room and a chiller and a calcium reactor. My neighbor has a 75 gallon planted tank in his living room and a 40 gallon in his den and nobody calls him an addict. Losing $80 in zoas stinks, sure, but that's basically the cost of a nice dinner out. I think the real question is whether you actually enjoy maintaining all that water volume or if you just like the idea of having options.
