Got the original paint to buff out on my '72 Ford truck

I see so many people just sanding down to bare metal and repainting classics. I spent like 4 hours with some polishing compound and a cheap buffer from Harbor Freight on the tailgate and the original Wimbledon White came back better than I expected. Anyone else have luck keeping OG paint alive?

Man that's awesome! I had a similar deal with my old '78 Chevy. The hood was faded to almost pink but I used a heavy cut compound with a wool pad on a variable speed grinder set low. Took some patience but the original blue came back real nice. You got to be careful not to burn through the clear if its still there but on those old single stage paints it can really bring it back to life. Nothing beats original paint that's been properly cared for.

I mean @miles54 I get what you're saying but idk, sometimes a fresh factory paint job just looks cleaner and lasts longer than trying to save old faded paint.
