Rewatched the original Night Court after trying the reboot... not even the same show

Sat down to watch the new Night Court last week with my wife. We made it through 3 episodes before I pulled up an old one on Peacock. The difference is night and day. The original had this loose, chaotic energy like they were barely holding it together. The new one feels too clean, too staged. Every joke lands exactly where you expect it. Why do revivals always iron out the weirdness that made the originals great in the first place? Has anyone else felt let down by a remake that sanded off all the rough edges?

...and that's exactly what happened when they tried to bring back Arrested Development. The new seasons had everyone come back but it felt like they were acting in a museum instead of a comedy. You can't just recreate lightning in a bottle. Night Court worked because Harry Anderson looked like he was making it up as he went along, and John Larroquette was so deadpan it felt real. But the new one has this bright HBO lighting and everyone's jokes are too polished. I bet if you put the old cast in the new set and told them to just riff, it would be way better than what they're writing now.
