My buddy told me I was watching Twin Peaks wrong because I kept checking my phone during the slow parts
He said I needed to treat it like a meditation instead of a plot-driven show, and once I actually sat down and watched the whole episode of the pilot without distractions I finally noticed the weird background details (like the body language in the diner scene) that made me appreciate why it's a cult classic.

oh man that's exactly what happened to me lol. the first time i tried watching twin peaks i was like "why is everyone so obsessed with this weird old show" and then i actually paid attention and noticed how every single character has these tiny little tells and reactions that build up the whole creepy vibe. the thing about lynch's stuff is that the "slow parts" are actually the most important parts because that's where all the weird atmospheric tension lives. once you stop waiting for something to happen and just let the show exist in its own weird little world, it completely clicks. now i tell everyone to watch it like they're studying a painting instead of reading a book.

Is it just me or does "study it like a painting" secretly mean "be prepared to nap through half of it"?
