Almost lost my entire DVD set of The Wire when my shelf collapsed last night
The cheap bracket I used finally gave out at 2am, sent 60 discs flying everywhere, and Season 4 got a scratch before I could stop it. Has anyone else had a storage fail that wrecked part of a collection you planned to rewatch?

I heard that toothpaste trick years ago and it actually worked on a scratched Xbox 360 game I had back in college. You just gotta rub it in gently and wipe it off without pressing too hard. But honestly, losing even a minute of Season 4 of The Wire is brutal. That season with the school kids and Marlo really hits different on a rewatch. I read somewhere that a lot of people store their discs in binders now since shelves are so unreliable. Maybe try that before investing in heavy duty tubs since binders take up way less space and keep everything organized.

60 discs is a mess waiting to happen with those cheap metal brackets, I learned that lesson with my old VHS collection back in the 90s. I think the real crime here is losing even one second of The Wire, Season 4 is probably the best season they ever made. You might have better luck with those heavy duty plastic tubs from the hardware store, I keep my box sets in them now after a similar shelf collapse sent my Lost DVDs rolling under the couch. At least the scratch might be fixable with some toothpaste, I heard that trick works for light scratches on discs.
