My paladin rolled four 1's in a row last night at the local game shop

I was running a Pathfinder session at Dragon's Den Comics downtown and my buddy's paladin needed to make a save against a banshee. He rolled four 1's in a row on d20s and failed so bad the whole party got cursed. We turned it into a side quest where a grumpy hag demanded he apologize to the banshee's ghost for failing so hard. Now he has to deliver a handmade apology letter to a haunted well by next session. Has anyone else ever turned a catastrophic fail streak into a whole adventure hook?

Paper and a wax seal go a long way for that apology letter, adds a nice prop element the players will remember. Keep a bucket of cheap d20s on hand for cursed rolls like that so the player can physically hand them over to the hag.

Actually that part about handing cheap d20s to the hag is a cool idea but you might want to be careful with the wording. The player is rolling the cursed dice not handing them over physically. If you mean the player gives the hag their regular d20 and gets a cursed one in return that makes more sense lol. Otherwise you'd need like 20 cheap d20s per session and that gets expensive fast. I've seen DMs do the cursed die swap thing where the player has to use a special die until they break the curse. That works way better than trying to hand over dice mid roll. The paper and wax seal thing is solid advice though I'm totally stealing that for my next session.
