Fumbled a stealth check three years ago and my rogue became a town hero
Last month I finally realized that rolling a critical fail on sneaking into the mayor's office back in 2022 actually forced my party to negotiate with guards, which turned into a whole festival plot, so has anyone else had a terrible roll that completely changed your campaign's direction?

Three years ago, my friend's character rolled a 1 trying to pick a lock, which set off an alarm, and we spent the next six sessions accidentally starting a revolution in that city. It's funny how a total screw-up can sometimes force you into a better story than the one you planned, kinda like how I messed up a drink order at work and a customer told me their whole life story (which turned into a regular who tips crazy good). I've noticed this pattern everywhere, not just in games - the best stuff in life often comes from when things go wrong and you have to roll with it. A missed bus forces you to talk to a stranger, a flat tire makes you discover a cool little diner you'd never seen, it's like the universe has its own weird random table for events.

Yeah, the universe's random event table seems to have a thing for making sure you don't get that quiet night in you wanted." A missed bus has never given me any interesting conversations, just a cold and a grudge against public transit.
