A DM at the shop told me my nat 1 roleplay was 'too realistic' and it hit different
I was running a session last Friday where my half-orc barbarian fumbled a grapple check on a goblin and ended up hugging a fire pit instead. The DM pulled me aside after and said my description of the panicked flailing was so good it made everyone forget the combat was a disaster. Has anyone else had a bad roll turn into a better story moment than the good ones?

Had a buddy of mine roll a nat 1 on a persuasion check to convince a guard he was a lost prince from a faraway kingdom. Instead of just saying "um, I fail lol," he went full on into this over the top sob story about his kingdom being haunted by a ghost cow that only he could milk. The DM was laughing so hard he let the guard just walk away pretending to believe it to end the awkwardness. The whole table still brings that ghost cow up like three campaigns later. Man, that goblin fire pit story of yours is exactly the kind of stuff that sticks with people more than any epic kill ever does.
