Unpopular opinion: I'd rather spot at a quiet regional airport than a major hub

Heard a podcast recently where this pilot was talking about the same thing. Said he loves landing at places like KBFI or KMWH because the whole pace is slower. There is no rush to get off the plane, no waiting for a gate, no fighting through a terminal full of stressed out people. Your experience is totally valid. The tradeoff is usually less food options and longer drives to hotels, but the calm feeling is worth it for many of us.
