Hot take: plane spotters who only chase Airbus A380s are missing the real action
I was out at Denver last Saturday watching the usual lineup and this guy next to me with a $3000 lens literally packed up and left because the only big jet coming in was a 787. Meanwhile a retro Delta 737-800 with the widget livery taxied by and he didn't even blink. I get that the A380 is huge and rare but there are so many cool liveries and older frames still flying. I spotted a United 757 with the battleship gray scheme three weeks ago at SFO and nobody else even turned their head. Why does everyone only care about the biggest plane on the runway?

I get the appeal but the A380 is just a different kind of thrill that's hard to beat.

Sure, the A380 is a different kind of thrill but you can't just pack up and miss a Delta widget... that's a classic right there. Best trick I learned is to keep a second camera body with a shorter lens just for the taxiway action so you don't miss the old stuff while waiting for the big bird. You end up with way more variety in your logbook and the old heads at the fence will actually talk to you about what they see.
