That $5 bag of mushrooms RUINED my pizza night

I always put mushrooms on my pizza, but last week I grabbed a bag at the corner store in Brooklyn and they were slimy before I even opened them. Wilted so bad on the pie they turned into this gross wet mess that soaked the whole crust. What's your go-to veggie topping that never lets you down?

Canned mushrooms get a bad rap but your friend Karen might be onto something. Fresh mushrooms are so hit or miss depending on where you get them and how long they've been sitting out. I'll take a reliably good canned shroom over a slimy mystery bag any day (especially if it saves my pizza crust from turning into soup).

My friend Karen bought a bag of "gourmet" mushrooms from a farmer's market once and was so excited. She sliced them up, put them on her homemade pizza, and after baking they turned into this weird rubbery discs that tasted like nothing. She said it was like eating little tires. Now she just gets the canned ones and rinses them off. They're not fancy but they actually taste like mushrooms and don't ruin the whole thing.
