Honestly my brother-in-law told me to soak my pans in bleach to get them clean and now I need new pans
Ngl I was desperate to get the baked-on grease off my favorite skillet so I listened to him. I left it in a bleach solution for like 2 hours and it stripped the nonstick coating completely. Now every egg I cook sticks like crazy and I have to scrub for 10 minutes after each use. He said he does this with all his pans but I think he was just messing with me. Has anyone else gotten bad cleaning advice from a family member that ruined something?

My buddy told me to use oven cleaner on my cast iron skillet (what a disaster that was) and it stripped all the seasoning right off, took me weeks to build it back up. Honestly some people just don't get that different pan materials need different care, especially nonstick which is basically delicate. Sorry your brother-in-law steered you wrong, that's a rough lesson to learn the hard way.

Read somewhere that soap is actually fine for cast iron now, who knew.
