My porch cat loves rain now and I found out why on some random vet blog
So I have this stray that started hanging out on my deck like 6 months ago. Every time it drizzles he just sits there looking at the water. I thought he was just weird. Then last week I was looking up something about ear mites and stumbled on a vet article saying some cats actually like the sound of rain because it masks other noises that make them nervous. Blew my mind. Now I leave the screen door cracked so he can come in if he wants but he never does. Anybody else got a pet that does something weird in the rain?

Honestly that makes a ton of sense when you think about it. Cats are basically little nervous systems with fur, so if rain drowns out the sound of cars or dogs barking for a stray, that's probably a huge relief. You might also notice he picks a spot under the eaves where the water drips in a rhythm. Mine used to do that with a leaky gutter, just sat there like he was meditating. The whole "masking noise" thing also explains why some cats go bonkers near vacuum cleaners but chill out completely in a thunderstorm.
