Finally got a decent photo of my cat yawning after 47 blurry attempts

I used to just spam the shutter button and hope for the best, but now I wait for her to actually stretch first and hold the phone super steady, which cut my failed photos from like 30 to maybe 2, has anyone else found a trick that actually works for capturing a good pet bloopers shot?

Timing is actually way less important than the lighting in a lot of cases. I noticed my cat looks way less derpy and more majestic in photos if I get a soft light from a window or a lamp on her face instead of using the phone flash. The flash washes out all the funny details like the weird tongue curl or the squinty eyes, so you lose the bloopers. Flipping the phone around and using the back camera also helps a ton, since the front camera is usually trash for pets. Maybe try staging a little spot by a window for the yawn shot and see if the quality jumps.
