That coworker who said "just ignore the notification dots" was totally wrong

My desk buddy Mark told me last month to stop clicking on every red badge on my phone, said it would save me hours. Well I tried it for a week and missed three important emails from my boss plus a calendar update for a meeting at the Starbucks on 5th Street. Has anyone else had that backfire or does it actually work for some people?
