PSA: Overlooking thermal paste application in beginner guides caused my first boot failure

I recently followed a highly recommended beginner PC build guide that glossed over thermal paste application, just mentioning to 'apply a pea-sized amount.' When I powered on my new system, it immediately thermal throttled and shut down. After panicking and double-checking all connections, I discovered the paste was unevenly spread, leaving bare spots on the CPU. I had to carefully remove the cooler, clean both surfaces, and reapply, which added an extra hour of frustrating work. This experience highlighted how often crucial, nuanced steps are simplified or omitted in guides aimed at newcomers. I've noticed a trend where guides prioritize flashy component showcases over foundational techniques. It makes me wonder if we should advocate for more detailed, step-by-step visual aids in written guides. Have you encountered similar oversights in build instructions?

Honestly, how hard is spreading paste?

Spreading paste reminds me of a childhood attempt to make our own glue. The concoction solidified into a rubbery pancake on the poster board. We had to peel it off in one unsettling sheet.

Wild glue pancake, @iris115. Childhood experiments were something else.
