Spent three hours last night trying to beat the water temple in Ocarina of Time
I swore I remembered every switch and block from 1998, but apparently my memory is useless because I kept circling the same room for 45 minutes before checking a guide, has anyone else's nostalgia brain totally failed them on a puzzle that used to be easy?

What used to be easy" - that's the part that gets me, because I actually think the Water Temple aged badly for a specific reason nobody talks about. The iron boots mechanic where you have to pause every single time to equip them (you know, that clunky menu system) was fine in 1998 because we were used to slow JRPG inventories from games like Final Fantasy. But now I'm so used to modern games that let you hotkey items, and going back to that pause-and-select rhythm just breaks all my momentum. Plus the water level raising isn't intuitive at all, it's not like the game ever tells you that certain doors lock you out if you raise it too much. I literally had to restart my file once because I saved in a spot where I couldn't progress, which is basically game design that punishes you for exploring. So it's not just nostalgia failing you - the temple was always kind of a mess, we just had more patience for bad UI back then.
